Everything about Ashlee and Kane’s wedding was my photographer dream come true. First of all, it’s worth pointing out that backyard weddings are my absolute favorite. There is so much heart in a wedding that is at home, and the day always ends up being so relaxed! And relaxed was the epitome of this day in this backyard on a beautiful property in Connecticut - Ashlee and Kane are the most easy going people I have ever met. My favorite line from the day that showcased just that was when a bridesmaid warned Ashlee she could potentially tip over in the canoe she was about to hop in and be wet when she walked down the aisle. Ashlee’s response? “Yeah, but wouldn’t that be kind of awesome?” A girl after my own heart!
It was a day filled with so many incredible memories. The girls got ready gleefully, occasionally pausing to practice the flash dance they had prepared for Kane. The boys hammered new holes in their suspenders and waited patiently for the action to start. Ashlee and Kane both cried and shared so much excitement in their first look together, which took place in front of the barn that Kane built. We leisurely picked raspberries for a snack and Ashlee and Kane got in that canoe, only to have to furiously race across the water with the wedding party screaming from the shore when their dog, Abel, decided to jump in and take up that bridesmaid’s idea of tipping them into the water! Ashlee surprised Kane with a wedding band that had their home engraved on it. The wedding party truly had the time of their lives and the reception was filled with so many tears and dancing. The love for these two was so evident - every time I turned around a bridsemaid (or three!) was crying happily. It was a day that I truly felt a part of, and where the memories made are ones that will last forever, not only for the couple and their guests, but for me too. Even writing about it now makes me smile. The rain the day received couldn’t even damper the mood. It really was the #bestdayever.
